Dr. J and Dr. Carr are a happily married couple who are passionate about providing the highest quality dermatology care for their patients.
Dr. J was born and raised in Oshawa, Ontario and from a young age aspired to be a National Geographic photographer. He quickly realized that being good at taking pictures of his family didn’t necessarily make him a professional photographer, so he honed his artistic curiosity and attention to detail to become a dermatologist. Dr. J attended medical school at McMaster University and completed his dermatology residency at the University of Toronto. He has been in clinical practice for over 10 years and has the same enjoyment and fascination with dermatology as he did with picture-taking as a kid. He absolutely loves his career and considers it a true privilege to care for his patients.
Dr. Carr was born and raised in Timmins, Ontario. She knew from a young age that she wanted to pursue a career in dermatology. As the middle child of five girls, she was the family skin specialist, giving her sisters impromptu assessments and treatments (even if they didn’t want them!). Dr. Carr also attended medical school at McMaster University and completed her dermatology residency at the University of Toronto. Throughout her journey in becoming a dermatologist and over 10 years of clinical experience, her love for the speciality has never wavered and she is still just as passionate about her field today as she was as a young girl. She truly cares for each and every one of her patients and considers it an honour to be involved in their care.
When not sharing their love of all things dermatology, these two can be found immersed in their three other loves: their children - Carr, Harrison and Adelaide. Beyond their family life, they are die-hard sports fans (Go Raptors!), enjoy travelling the world, and are self-proclaimed (in their own minds) foodies.
From curing skin cancers and treating a variety of frustrating skin conditions, to removing unwanted lumps and bumps and performing cosmetic injectable and laser therapies, these two can do it all. And if you have ever seen them before - you know they have a great time doing it.

Most recently, Dr. Carr and Dr. J have opened a new satellite location in Hamilton, ON called SUR by SURFACE. This new location specializes in cosmetic dermatology with the expertise of Kelly Poworoznyk, Cosmetic iNjector and Laura Nixon, Certified Laser technician.
Nurse Kelly Powroznyk, RN, Lead Injector, has over 18 years of experience with helping patients achieve their cosmetic goals. Known for her attention to detail, she ensures natural-looking results with neuromodulators and dermal fillers. Additionally, kelly specializes in sclerotherapy for spider veins and teaches advanced injection techniques at the APT facility.
Laura Nixon is a certified medical assistant, lab technician, and laser technician, trained since 2005. She began her career in the lab but quickly transitioned to dermatology. As one of the first laser technicians, Laura has extensive knowledge and prides herself on providing honest, evidence-based treatments for her patients' skin care concerns.
